Wolves are looking to find the perfect loan deal for talented prospect Alfie Pond, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The promising 21-year-old defender joined the Midlands club three seasons ago from Exeter City.

And the Premier League side are now keen to get the youngster out on loan to play some regular senior first-team football.

Centre-back Pond enjoyed a brief loan spell with Stockport County a couple of seasons ago but has mainly been plying his trade for the club’s Under-21 side.

The Under-21 skipper is highly-regarded at Molineux and made his Premier League debut last season, used as a late substitute in the club’s 2-0 victory over Fulham at Craven Cottage.

He has also played two FA Cup games and four other senior appearances for the club, having played nine games on loan with the Hatters during his time at Edgeley Park.

Pond came on for Nelson Semedo for a moment he described at the time as being a moment he would “never forget."

“It’s all about building every day, keep working hard and see where it takes me,” reflected Pond after his top-flight breakthrough.

“It's just building blocks every day. Even in training and being around the squad.”

GRECIANS GRADUATE

Pond started his career with the Grecians having come through the club’s academy system.

And now Wolves are keen for the defender to push on and take the next step in his career development.

Wolves have made a string of their young stars available for loan this summer with the view to playing regular matches.

Pond is regarded as one of the club’s best young players and has impressed at the club since he made the move up from the south west.

He has followed in the footsteps of a number of former Exeter academy players fwho have gone on to join Premier League sides.

England and Aston Villa striker Ollie Watkins, Ethan Ampadu, Ben Chrisene and Matt Grimes have all previously followed the upwards path Pond is now following.
