Wolves are confident they can beat Everton and West Ham to the signing of former Burnley midfielder Josh Brownhill, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

But our sources have learnt over the weekend that Everton are ready to table an improved offer to Brownhill’s representatives in order to get a deal done on deadline day.

Midfielder Brownhill has been happy to wait for a club to sign him this summer having rejected a new contract at Turf Moor.

But the 29-year-old playmaker, who was the Clarets’ best player last season as the Lancashire won promotion back to the Premier League, is believed to have grown frustrated no deal has been done yet and that he has missed the start of the new season.

Brownhill is understood to have been training hard to keep himself ready for a move, with Wolves now the latest club to have entered the race to try and secure his prized signature.

A sign-on fee of around £12million has been muted for the player, who finished Burnley’s top-scorer last season with 18 goals and four assists in the Championship.

Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is also understood to be one of Wolves’ other deadline day targets, but our sources understand Brownhill is the club’s preferred midfielder.

LUCRATIVE OFFER

It is believed Brownhill wants around £100k a week to sign for any club, a significant increase from his previous Burnley contract.

But having shown what he can do in the second tier last term, and twice won promotion to the Premier League with the club, Brownhill and his representatives believe he is worth every penny.

Saudi Arabian side Al Shabab have been rumoured to have offered Brownhill the weekly wage he craves, but it is understood the Premier League is his preferred destination ahead of a move to play in the Saudi Pro League.
