Celtic have made a £10million deadline day move for sought-after Anderlecht striker Kasper Dolberg, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Hoops had been hopeful of signing former England and Leicester City hitman Jamie Vardy on a free transfer.

But the 38-year-old forward is understood to be in Italy with the view to signing a one-year deal with Italian Serie A club Cremonese.

Dutch club Feyenoord also made moves with the Hoops to try and sign Vardy, who have now moved to Dolberg as their top target before the window shuts today at 7PM.

Dolberg was dropped to the substitute’s bench for Anderlecht’s derby day defeat to Union SG at the weekend amidst growing interest from the Scottish Premiership champions.

And our sources understand an £8million fee plus £2million in add-ons has been muted to try and entice the experienced Denmark international to Celtic Park.

Capped 55 times by his country, Dolberg has been in excellent form for Anderlech since his arrival two seasons ago.

He has bagged an impressive 44 goals in just 95 games, with five goals from eight games already this season.

Last term he netted 18 goals in 31 league games, having scored 15 from 39 in the Belgian Pro League the previous campaign.

BIG ADMIRER

Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers is believed to be a big admirer of the player and has gone on record as saying he’d like to strengthen his strikeforce before the window closes, especially after a dull goalless Old Firm derby draw with Rangers at the weekend.

Dolberg previously played for Dutch giants Ajax, scoring 33 goals in 78 appearances for the club before a move to French outfit Nice, where he scored 23 in 74 games in all competitions.

The 27-year-old forward’s goalscoring ability is without question and Celtic hope to get a deal done to get him over to Scotland on deadline to have a medical and conclude a deal.

Hoops striker Adam Idah has agreed a £7million switch to Championship side Swansea City, but our sources believe Celtic will only let the deal complete if they can get Dolberg in the building.
