Middlesbrough are braced for an onslaught for highly sought-after Hayden Hackney, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Premier League vultures are circling for Boro’s prized asset.
Hackney is tipped for a bright future and is on the list of a number of top flight clubs.
But Boro bosses are adamant Hackney is not for sale this summer, with little time to find a replacement of the same quality, and insist they will maintain that strong stance.
Our sources have been told the club are yet to receive a bid for the player despite the growing interest.
Wolves have reportedly been preparing a hefty swoop of around £20million, with substantial add-ons seeing that figure rise to around £30million.
Boro have made a strong start to their Championship campaign, winning their first four outings, and Hackney is a pivotal part of Rob Edwards’s plans this season.
Speaking about the player, he said: “We love him. The supporters love him. He loves the club.”
“He’s a good player so it’s understandable there’s speculation. His performance levels have been excellent. That tells you everything about him.”
However, it is reported that Hackney has told the club he wants to leave the Riverside if a Premier League side come calling and wants to test himself at the highest level.
The 23-year-old central midfielder is a player who has been on the radar of Brentford in recent years and they could mount a late bid if they fail to land their main targets this window.
West Ham United and Brighton and Hove Albion are also interested in the highly-rated England under-21 international.
One of Their Own
Middlesbrough would expect a fee similar to the £37.5million Ipswich Town fetched for Omari Hutchinson earlier in the window.
Hackney, who has made over 100 league appearances for the club, joined the Boro academy at the age of nine and signed his first contract on his 17th birthday in 2019.
He became a regular under the watchful tutorage of Michael Carrick and has credited the Manchester United legend for his quick fire development.
