Midfielder Josh Dasilva is working on his rehabilitation at former club Brentford with the view to earning a new deal, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Dasilva was released by the Bees at the end of the last season but has spent the summer working on his fitness at the club’s state-of-the-art Robert Rowan Performance Centre.

The former England Under-21 international was forced to have knee ligament surgery last year after injuring himself in training for the club.

But he has never given up hope of potentially signing a new deal with the club or resurrecting his career at new club.

The significant injury to his right knee meant the 26-year-old last played a competitive game for the West London club in January last year.

At the time of the injury, the Bees’ head of medical Neil Greig said: “He’s (Josh) previously shown an outstanding attitude to adversity and injury recovery, and we have absolute confidence in his capability to fully recovery from this setback.”

However, Dasilva has not played for over 18 months now and knows time is running out to get his previously promising career back on track after all of his injury woes.

ARSENAL GRADUATE

The Ilford-born player started his career with Arsenal before the Bees came calling and signed him in 2018 on a four-year deal.

He played 157 games for the club over a seven-year spell at the Gtech Community Stadium and was a mainstay of the Bees’ side for three of those seasons, twice in the Championship and then latterly in the 2022-23 Premier League campaign.

He played 36 games that season and scored four goals before injury struck and he played just three league games across the next two seasons.

Fellow Premier League clubs Sunderland and Fulham have both previously expressed an interest in the player, while Championship Coventry City have also made enquiries about the midfielder’s recovery and likely return to fitness after such a long lay-off.

But the gamble for any club looking to give Dasilva a way back is whether his knee will hold up under the pressure of competition and how much of an injury-risk he is moving forward.
