Forgotten Newcastle United wonderkid Rolando Aarons has attracted the attention of Scottish Premiership side Falkirk and Sheffield Wednesday, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

But Motherwell have also made enquirer about bringing the ex-Jamaica international back to Fir Park for a third spell as they look to strengthen their forward options.

Aarons has been a free agent ever since being released by Slovenian side NK Celje, but the 29-year-old believes he still has plenty of offer as an attacking force.

The two-cap Jamaica international and former England Under-20 star burst on to the professional scene with Newcastle back in 2015 when he played ten Premier League games for the club.

But he fell down the pecking order and was then sent out on loan to a string of clubs including Hellas Verona, Slovan Liberec, Sheffield Wednesday, Wycombe Wanderers and then Motherwell.

Aarons earnt himself a move to Huddersfield Town in 2021 and played ten games in his first season at the club in the Championship.

However, again, he fell down the pecking order was loaned to Motherwell for a second time when they were in need of a winger.

Aarons has spent the past month training with the popular PFA training squad in a concentrated effort to stay fit.

PFA TRAINING SQUAD

A list of well-known names including Scotland international shot-stopper Angus Gunn and former Manchester United prospect Ravel Morrison have been training with the PFA squad in recent months.

Gunn earnt himself a high-profile move to Premier League Nottingham Forest last month, while a number of other players from the squad have gone on to find permanent homes.

However, Aarons’ career has not been short of injury problems, with an frustrating ACL injury and metatarsal foot fracture having hampered his growth in the game.

He once revealed: "I broke down a few times. During my first season, I called my mum and cried down the phone after my hamstring injuries."

"Then, after my ACL operation, I ran a bath and couldn’t physically get into the tub."

"I just wept, thinking, ‘I’m the most unlucky footballer in the world.’ I felt helpless."

"I got into a dark place, mentally. I didn’t know anyone else who’d been through that experience so I was trying to do it all myself."
