Hull City will trigger their one year contract extension to keep John Egan at the club until 2027, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The experienced defender joined the club from Burnley on an initial 18-month deal back in February, which expires at the end of the season.
And the 32-year-old Republic of Ireland centre-back has played a big part at the heart of the Tigers’ defence since, helping them avoid relegation last season.
Our sources have been told bosses at the club are pleased with Egan since his arrival both on and off the pitch and will extend his stay at the MKM Stadium by triggering their one-year extension option.
Speaking about his future earlier this season, the former Sheffield United defender said: “I want to stay in England for as long as possible.”
And when he signed for the club he said: “I’m looking forward to the future, putting on the black and amber, being a Hull City player. I’ll give it my all, and hopefully, we can achieve success together.”
Back To His Best
Egan was Hull’s eighth signing of last season’s winter transfer window as the club secured their Championship season.
And the Irishman has played every minute of the club’s last eight league games heading into the international break.
The Cork-born man has a wealth of experience with over 400 games under his belt.
Egan began his career at Sunderland and after a number of loan spells moved to Gillingham on a free in 2014 and won their Player of the Year Award in his first season.
He spent two seasons with Brentford before a £4million career-defining switch to Sheffield United.
His six-season spell at the Blades included two Premier League promotions and saw Egan realise his dream of playing at the highest level.
A career-threatening achilles injury ended his Blades’ career and he spent over a year on the sidelines before joining Burnley on a one-year deal before moving to Hull five months later.
