Morecambe are considering offering goalkeeper Billy Crellin a trial at the club, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The 25-year-old shot stopper has been without a club since being released by Everton in the summer.
Free agent Crellin spent a trial period with Port Vale in July before Darren Moore opted to sign Australian Joe Gauci on loan from Aston Villa instead.
Our sources understand Morecambe are looking into the free agent market for a stopper to provide competition for Archie Mair after their 5-0 drubbing at Truro City at the weekend left them at the foot of the National League table and Crellin fits the bill.
The stopper played 38 times as Accrington Stanley retained their League Two status last term.
Crellin also spent spells in the Football League with both Fleetwood Town and Bolton Wanderers as well as stints in the National League with Chorley and FC United.
Capped at England level from U17 to U20, Crellin was on the radar of clubs like Manchester United as a youngster before he signed a new deal at Fleetwood.
Everton first tried to sign the youngster in 2019, for a fee understood to be £200,000.
The Toffees eventually got their man in January 2022 and Crellin, who hails from an Everton-supporting family, described the move as “surreal”.
Still Standing
Morecambe have endured a rollercoaster summer and narrowly avoided being wound up.
They missed their first three games of the National League season due to suspension after failing to meet financial requirements during the drawn out takeover process.
The suspension was lifted on August 19 after the takeover by Panjab Warriors was approved, with a famous victory against Altrincham in their first game.
There has already been a significant squad shuffle since the new ownership took charge with eight players joining the club.
