Bolton Wanderers will explore the possibility of making Marcus Forss’ loan move permanent, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Finland international endeared himself to the Trotters’ faithful when he bagged a brace in their derby-day victory over Wigan Athletic.
Forss, 26, is in the final year of his contract at Middlesbrough and was sent out to the League One outfit after two late substitute appearances for the Championship club at the start of the season.
Our sources have been told that Boro, currently the league leaders in the Championship, will not extend the striker’s contract at the Riverside.
It is understood that Forss will have a number of suitors come the end of the season if he is able to keep himself fit and rediscover the scoring form he showed earlier on in his career.
And Wanderers are ready to throw their hat in the ring after giving the hitman the opportunity to put himself in the shop window in the final year of his Boro contract.
Back on Track
Forss moved from Finland to England when he joined the West Bromwich Albion academy at 13.
He eventually moved to Brentford in 2017 and graduated to the first team a year later.
Forss enjoyed a successful loan spell at AFC Wimbledon in the 2019/2020 campaign as he racked up 11 goals in 19 League One appearances for the club.
Upon his return to the Bees the following season, the club were in the Premier League and he was limited to sporadic appearances off the bench but scored six goals in five cup games, famously hitting four in a 7-0 drubbing of Oldham Athletic.
Forss made a £3milllion move to Middlesbrough in 2022 and scored ten league goals in his first season.
But his second campaign, where he still scored seven goals, was littered with injury problems and last term was a struggle with just one goal in 25 appearances, only six of those starts.
