Former Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is being considered for the Rangers’ hot seat, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Club chiefs finally pulled the trigger and sacked boss Russell Martin after the 1-1 draw away at Falkirk on Sunday following a shocking start to the season.
Martin was axed after just 17 games at Ibrox, a tenure which will go down as the worst managerial appointment in the club’s history.
And chairman Andrew Cavanagh will have to get the right man in to appease rising tensions among the fanbase.
Our sources have been told Rohl is highly thought of in the Rangers’ boardroom after what he achieved amid Sheffield Wednesday's ongoing situation and is on a shortlist of potential replacements.
It is also understood that Steven Gerrard is being considered for a potential Ibrox return.
The Liverpool legend had a 64.8 per cent win percentage during his three-and-a-half-year reign at the club, where he won the league title in 2021.
Former Rangers player Kevin Muscat, who is currently in charge at Chinese champions Shanghai Port, is also one of the favourites to land the job.
Sean Dyche, who was in the frame to takeover before Martin was appointed on a three-year deal back in June, is also being discussed.
Put Out of his Misery
It had been a dreadful start to the new campaign for the Gers.
Martin won just one of his of his seven league games in charge of the club, who sit eighth in the Scottish Premiership table.
The writing was on the wall after Sunday’s draw at newly-promoted Falkirk with Martin needing a police escort to leave the ground as disgruntled fans formed a human barricade to try and stop him leaving.
A club statement read: “Rangers Football Club confirms that it has parted company with Head Coach, Russell Martin.”
“While all transition periods require some time, results have not met the club's expectations.”
