Exclusive: Brentford Set to Offer Denmark International Midfielder Mathias Jensen Bumper New Contract to Stay

Brentford are ready to offer midfielder Mathias Jensen a bumper new deal to stay at the club after a series of high-profile exits this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Bees sold star players Bryan Mbeumo and Yoanna Wissa to Manchester United and Newcastle United respectively for a combined £126million including add-ons before the summer transfer window shit earlier this month.

Mbeumo went to Old Trafford for £65m plus £6m in add-ons, while Yissa joined the Magpies in a deal worth £50m plus add-ons.

And our sources have learnt the club are keen to tie experienced Denmark international Jensen to a new contract to stay in West London.

The 29-year-old midfielder joined the Bees in July 2019 from Spanish La Liga outfit Celta Vigo.

He initially joined the club on a four-year deal worth £3.5million, signing a two-and-a-half-year extension in January 2023 to stay at the Gtech Community Stadium.

There is also a one-year extension option built into that contract, which the Bees can activate if they want and the chance to extend further.

Jensen made his name playing for FC Nordsjaelland in his native country and starred as the Bees won promotion to the Premier League in 2021.

SEVENTH SEASON

Jensen is now in his seventh season with the club and has been a mainstay of the side during their Championship and Premier League tenure.

He has played a total of 241 games for the club, which includes 126 Premier League appearances across the past five season, including this year.

Capped 30 times by his country, Jensen is highly-regarded by the Bees and the club are hopeful the midfielder will extend his stay.

Jensen has started one and been used as a substitute so far this season in the Premier League, as well as having started in the club’s EFL Cup away win over Bournemouth.

Last season he played 27 times for the club as the Bees finished tenth in the standings before former manager Thomas Frank left to become Tottenham’s latest manager.
