Aberdeen are ready to offer Allan Campbell a route back to Scotland, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal. As transfer talks heat up and teams strengthen ahead of the season, now’s a great time to bet on football and follow all the latest Scottish league action.
The Dons still have space available in their squad to fill the homegrown quota in Scottish professional football, where clubs need a minimum of eight players trained at teams in the country for three years between 15 and 21.
Campbell was on trial at Oxford United, where he linked up with former boss Gary Rowett, over the summer but a move to the Championship club failed to come to fruition. With the new season shaping up and transfers like Campbell’s in the spotlight, fans are already speculating on team performances if you’re following the action closely, check out the latest reviews on online betting sites for the best markets on Scottish football.
And speaking about the 27-year-old midfielder, Rowett said: “What we spoke about for Allan, we didn’t feel it was fair to keep him here for two or three weeks, and then potentially if we say at the end of that ‘there’s nothing for you’, then of course that’s not fair on him to have wasted that time.”
“He was very good coming in, training, playing the two games. He’s someone that I think would add something to the squad 100 per cent.”
Aberdeen have announced their 25-man squad for the Europa League, but are open to offering Campbell a deal for their Scottish Premiership campaign, which has got off to a terrible start.
But they face competition from Motherwell, where Campbell came through the ranks, for the one-time Scottish international.
Back to Scotland?
Campbell spent 13 years at Motherwell, where he made over 150 appearances, before making the move down south to join Luton Town.
The midfielder was part of the Hatters’ squad which secured a dream promotion to the Premier League in 2023.
With Luton in the top tier, Campbell went on loan to Millwall and spent the start of last season on loan at Charlton Athletic, with that deal being cut short when he signed short-term deal with Dundee United.
