Bournemouth are looking to offer centre-back Marcos Senesi a new contract before his deal runs down, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Cherries lost the heart of their defence in the summer with top performers Dean Huijsen, Ilya Zabarnyi and Milos Kerkez all departing.

And manager Andoni Iraola has so far worked miracles to plug the gaps for a defence which helped the club finish a credible ninth place in the Premier League last term.

The Cherries are currently flying high in third position in the top-flight after four wins and just one win defeat from their opening eight league fixtures.

And following the club's back-and-forth 3-3 draw away with Crystal Palace this weekend just gone, our sources have discovered Bournemouth are readying a deal to keep Argentina international Sensei at the Vitality Stadium for at least another two years.

The 28-year-old defender has started every one of the Cherries’ league games so far, having already become an integral player in Iraola’s rebuild mission.

CENTURY MILESTONE

Former Feyenoord ace Senesi is two short of 100 club appearances for the Cherries, with 87 of those having so far come in the Premier League.

Having been a regular starter in his first two seasons at the club, Senesi was frustrated to just 17 games in the top-flight last term as Huijsen and Zabarnyi, not at Real Madrid and Paris Saint Germain respectively, were Iraola’s first-choice centre-back pairing.

But this season Senesi has jumped at his chance to prove his worth and has impressed in the early stages of the season.

And before his current four-year deal expires next June, the club are actively putting together a package which they hope will persuade the defender to stay on the south coast.

Premier League rivals Manchester United and Newcastle United are just of the clubs linked with a potential move for the player, but the Cherries are confident they can keep the former UEFA Europa Conference League runner-up.
