Burnley have expressed an interest in signing Leicester City midfielder Harry Winks, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
But our sources have learnt the Foxes are keen to offer their star midfielder a new deal to stay at the Kingpower Stadium.
Winks has started six of the nine league games he played for the Foxes in the Championship this season, with the team fourth in the standings as they gun to navigate an immediate return to the Premier League.
But our sources have learnt Clarets’ boss Scott Parker is a big fan of the former England international and is confident he can integrate into him his Premier League squad.
Former Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Winks has bags of Premier League experience having played 128 games for Spurs in the top-flight.
And he was arguably one of the Foxes best players despite the club being relegated back to the second tier at the end of last season.
CONTRACT EXPIRY
The 29-year-old’s contract is due to expiry in June next year and then he would become a free agent.
The Foxes hope to be back in the Premier League again, but are understandably keen to get a new contract sorted before then or risk Winks leaving for little or no return.
Winks might wait until the end of the season to discuss any potential new deal, especially if the Foxes don’t win promotion back to the Premier League.
But SportsBoom understands that’s not going to stop the Clarets from trying to pursue the proven Premier League ace about signing up to their exciting blueprint for the top-flight.
Winks is the third and final season of his current deal with the Foxes has played 69 league games for the club, with a total of 76 appearances overall.
However, as he approaches a milestone 100 games for the former Premier League champions, the next few months are set prove to be pivotal in his next career decision.
