Everton are ready to offer midfielder James Garner a new contract, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Garner has been a big hit for the Toffees ever since signing from Premier League rivals Manchester United three years ago.

But his current four-year deal is set to expire in June next year and Everton boss David Moyes is hungry to tie Garner to a new deal.

The 24-year-old is highly-rated by Moyes and Everton, but with his deal running down the Merseyside-born midfielder has been attracted the interest of rival clubs.

And that’s why Moyes and co are keen to get a new deal sorted before the risk of losing the youngster on a free next summer.

Garner, who has played for England at Under-17 to Under-21 level, joined the Toffees from United in September 2022, a move which caused substantial backlash from United fans at the loss of one of their star young players.

The deal, worth £9million plus a potential £6m in add-ons, was an astute bit of business by Everton, with Garner having quickly established himself as a fans’ favourite at the club.

He played 16 times in his debut season at the club and then was a regular starter during the last two years, having played 79 times in the Premier League up to now.

In all, Garner has played 91 games for the club and has been a regular in the side this season under Moyes.

    STARRING DISPLAYS

Garner has played nine times this season, with seven of those appearances in the top-flight with Everton sitting a credible eighth in the standings with three wins and two draws from their opening eight games.

He has enjoyed playing alongside new signing Jack Grealish, as well as Tyler Dibling and Idrissa Gueye in Everton’s combative midfield.

Garner has previously revealed he enjoys working under Moyes and said: “He sets high standards and we know where we want to be.”

He added: “If you want to achieve big things, then you’ve got to set your standards high and your goals high."

“There’s a mentality shift this season, you can see we’re playing with more confidence.”
