West Brom are contemplating letting captain Jed Wallace leave for free at the end of the season, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Baggies’ skipper has endured an underwhelming start to life under new boss Ryan Mason.
And our sources have been told the club are open to the prospect of not renewing the 31-year-old's contract.
It is understood talks over the player’s future will get underway in the coming months.
Our sources have been told any new deal at the Baggies would be a short-term one.
Wallace is one of the biggest earners at the Hawthorns and might need to take a pay cut to extend his stay in the Midlands.
If Wallace is released next summer, there are plenty of Championship suitors willing to offer him a deal if the price is right given his wealth of experience at the level.
It is understood that a trio of unnamed clubs are monitoring his performances this season ahead of a potential swoop in the summer if he leaves West Brom.
Declining Performances
Wallace’s output has been on the decline in recent seasons.
During his first two campaigns at the Hawthorns he bagged six goals apiece and played 50 and 44 games respectively.
But last season, he scored just once in 30 games and has struggled for form under Mason.
Wallace started his career at Portsmouth, where he scored 27 goals in 110 games for the club, earning himself the Player of the Year Award in the 2014/15 season.
He moved to Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Championship in the summer of 2015, but struggled to make his mark at the club as he made just 18 appearances in two seasons.
But after helping Millwall get promoted via the League One play-offs whilst on loan in the 2016/17 campaign he was a mainstay in the Lions’ side, spending the second half of his career there as captain, during a five-year stint at The Den and turned down a new deal before moving to West Brom.
