Birmingham City want to sign Wolves loan midfielder Tommy Doyle on a permanent deal next summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

And our sources understand that the Blues would consider signing the former England Under-21 international sooner if Wolves are prepared to do a deal.

Doyle joined the promotion-winning Blues in July this year on a season-long loan deal.

And the 23-year-old has wasted little time in impressing with the Midlands club having won three and drawn three of their opening nine games back in the Championship.

Doyle has played in every league game so far for the Blues, as well as two English League Cup clashes having firmly established himself as a regular first-team squad player for manager Chris Davies.

Last season Doyle played 24 games for Wolves in the Premier League, but the club decided this season it would be better if he went out on loan to guarantee himself regular football.

The former Manchester City youth star has had previous loan spells with Hamburger SV, Cardiff City and Sheffield United, but he is now looking to find a permanent home to take the next step in his blossoming career.

IMPRESSIVE LOAN SPELL

Birmingham have provided that opportunity this season and have been impressed with how the Manchester-born midfielder has fitted in at the club.

If the Blues do sign Doyle it will cost them in the region £6million, a price potentially worth paying given the growing interest in the midfielder.

Birmingham are happy to wait another nine months before signing Doyle, but Wolves know they have to agree a deal before to stand any chance of profiting from a sale before the player is available to leave on a free transfer.
