Exclusive: St Mirren interested in signing Shamal George permanently
St Mirren are looking to secure Shamal George on a permanent deal after his impressive loan spell from Wycombe. The 27-year-old goalkeeper has been a hero for the team, reaching the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals. George's experience and composure in goal have impressed manager Stephen Robinson. George, a Liverpool academy graduate, has had loan spells at various clubs before making his mark with St Mirren.

St Mirren want to make Shamal George’s loan move permanent, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The 27-year-old shot stopper, who previously played in the Scottish Premiership with Livingston, was loaned to the Buddies by Wycombe Wanderers — who have an option to recall the player in January — in the summer.
George has impressed during his short time in Paisley so far and our sources understand bosses are ready to explore the possibility of securing him on a permanent deal.
The keeper was the hero as he kept out Kyle Magennis’ penalty in a shoot-out victory over Kilmarnock as St Mirren reached the Premier Sports Cup semi-finals.
Hundreds of supporters swarmed the pitch as George was carried on team-mate Alex Gogic’s shoulders to soak up the jubilant celebrations.
Speaking about the heroic stopper, boss Stephen Robinson said: “It's not something we searched out, but when he became available, I had no hesitation whatsoever.”
“He gives real composure, a real presence in goal as well.”
Moving On?
The Liverpool academy graduate, who famously played up front in a pre-season friendly under Jurgen Klopp, had loan spells at Carlisle United, Tranmere Rovers and Marine to gain first-team experienced during his time at Anfield.
He left for Colchester United after an 11-year spell in Merseyside in 2020.
After two seasons in Essex, where he earned the Player of the Year Award in the 2021-2022 season, the player moved to Livingstone.
George made 80 appearances during his time at the Lions, where he kept 22 clean sheets, before Wycombe triggered a six-figure release clause in 2024.
But the player’s minutes at Adams Park have been restricted to just three FA Cup games, where he kept back-to-back clean sheets, and two EFL Trophy outings.
