Watford want to offload keeper Dan Bachmann at the end of the season, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Austrian stopper has played 138 times for the Hornets, but our sources have been told he has been deemed surplus to requirements at Vicarage Road.
Bachmann has not played for the club since he suffered an ankle ligament injury in January and agreed a season-long loan move to Spanish Segundo Division club Deportivo La Coruna earlier this summer.
After Bachmann’s injury, Watford opted to sign Norwegian Egil Selvik from sister club Udinese and he has firmly established himself as the Hornets’ number one.
And Bachmann was informed he was not in the club’s first-team plans this season by new boss Paulo Pezzolano, who replaced Tom Cleverley.
Our sources understand Watford want to get Bachmann’s wages off their books and were open to selling him this summer before the loan move to Deportivo materialised.
An experienced Championship stopper, Bachmann is expected to attract a number of suitors come the end of the season.
Unfortunate Injury Ended Watford Career
Bachmann had long been Watford’s first-choice stopper before his unfortunate injury.
He was part of the side which earned the club a Premier League return in the 2020/21 campaign before they were immediately relegated back to the Championship.
Bachmann started his senior career at Stoke and during his time there he had loan spells at Wrexham, Ross County and Bury.
He signed an initial three-year deal at Watford in 2017 when the club were in the Premier League and went on loan to Scottish Premier League outfit Kilmarnock the 2018/19 season.
Bachmann usurped club legend Ben Foster as number one midway through the promotion-winning campaign and went on to become club captain during his time at the club.
