Ange Postecoglou is being lined up to become the new Wolves boss following Vitor Pereira’s sacking on Sunday, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Aussie boss Postecoglou has been out of work since 18th October when he was sacked by Nottingham Forest after a dismal start to the Premier League season.
And although the 60-year-old has been heavily linked with a return to his former club Celtic, our sources understand Postecoglou favours another opportunity in the Premier League.
He was brutally dismissed by Forest after just 39 days in charge, the second shortest in Premier League history.
But after just over a fortnight away from the game, the former Hoops and Tottenham Hotspur manager is targeting a quick Premier League return.
He guided Spurs to the their first trophy for 17 years by beating Manchester United in the UEFA Europa League final in Bilbao last season.
And at Celtic he won five trophies, winning the Scottish Premiership and Scottish League Cup titles in his first season, before inspiring a memorable Treble the next season before Spurs tempted him to the Premier League.
Wolves have made a poor start to this season under Portuguese coach Pereira, who only signed a contract extension in September of this year.
WINLESS START
The 57-year-old has endured a frustrating winless start to the season, with disgruntled Wolves’ fans chanting “you’re getting sacked in the morning” after a dismal 3-0 defeat at Fulham on Saturday.
Wolves executive chairman Jeff Shi confirmed Pereira’s dismissal in a brief statement on Sunday.
“Vitor and his team worked tirelessly for Wolves and helped guide us through a challenging period last season, for which we are grateful,” said Shi.
“Unfortunately, the start to this season has been a disappointment and, despite our strong desire to give the head coach time and matches to find an improvement, we have reached a point where we must make a change.
“We thank Vitor and his staff for their efforts and wish them the very best for the future.”
Pereira became the fourth Premier League manager to be sacked this season with Wolves rooted to the bottom of the division after ten games.
