Exclusive: Rangers Boss Danny Rohl Eyeing Up Bailey Cadamarteri in Owls’ January Raid

New Rangers boss Danny Rohl aims to take advantage of Sheffield Wednesday's financial crisis by pursuing Bailey Cadamarteri. Knowing the player well from his time at Hillsborough, Rohl is eager to bolster his attacking options at Ibrox. Wednesday's administration and late wage payments could make a move possible.

New Rangers boss Danny Rohl will attempt to exploit the financial crisis at his former club Sheffield Wednesday by swooping for Bailey Cadamarteri, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The German, who took charge at Ibrox earlier this month following Russell Martin’s disastrous tenure, is desperate to bolster his attacking options in order to kick-start his new club’s season.

And our sources have been told that has prompted him to instruct the Glaswegian giants’ hierarchy to begin piecing together a proposed deal for one of the Championship’s most exciting young talents.

Rohl’s time at Hillsborough also means he has detailed knowledge of the fee it would take to capture Cadamarteri and the best time to make contact with his former employers.

Aged 20, Cadamarteri came close to leaving South Yorkshire during the summer transfer window, as the Thai businessman looked to raise the funds required to keep Wednesday afloat.

Manchester City were among the teams to keep tabs on the striker’s situation, although he was not one of Pep Guardiola’s priority targets.

Rangers Reunion?

Rohl, though, has been an influential figure in Cadamarteri’s development , handing him his senior league debut and selecting him a further 24 times that term.

Despite later loaning him to Lincoln City to accelerate his development, Rohl is confident that his relationship with the centre forward, combined with the prospect of eventually challenging for major honours north of the border, would make Rangers an attractive proposition for both the player and his family which includes his father, ex-Everton and Sheffield United marksman, Danny.

Bottom of the Championship and now in administration, Wednesday also find themselves in hot water with the English Football League after repeatedly being guilty of paying wages late.

Chansiri fell-out badly with Rohl towards the end of his tenure, when the latter initially refused to report for pre-season training after growing tired of Wednesday’s off-the-pitch issues. That decision did not go down well with some senior figures in the dressing room, who were instead led by Rohl’s successor Henril Pedersen at a training camp in Staffordshire.

But with the club now in the hand of a group of three administrators, Rangers are ready to strike now Chansiri is out of the picture.
