Nottingham Forest are stepping up plans to revive their raid for Inter Milan ace Davide Frattesi, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Premier League side had a summer move firmly swatted away by the Italian Serie A giants, but they have not given up the chase.
With the next transfer window creeping closer, Forest chiefs are lining up an improved bid in a bid to finally prise their man away from the San Siro.
And there is growing confidence behind the scenes.
One insider told us: “Davide is happy at Inter, but he wants to be playing regularly. The Premier League really appeals to him and Forest’s interest hasn’t gone unnoticed."
“If the opportunity is right, he would seriously consider a move. He knows he could have a bigger role in England.”
Forest are not alone in the hunt.
Italian heavyweights Roma, one of his former clubs, have previously been linked with a return swoop, while fellow Italian outfits Juventus and Napoli have also monitored his situation.
Additionally, Forest have again been linked with Celtic's Arne Engels, as they look to revive interest in another midfielder.
PREMIER LEAGUE INTEREST
There has also been other Premier League interest, with scouts from clubs including Brighton and Tottenham having watched him in recent seasons.
Forest scouts, however, believe they have stolen a march and see the 26-year-old as the midfield spark they have been missing, a relentless box-to-box runner with an eye for goal.
Frattesi’s numbers underline the appeal. Since breaking through at Sassuolo, he has built a reputation as one of Italy’s most productive midfielders, notching double-digit Serie A goal contributions across the past two full seasons before joining Inter.
He has also become a regular in the Italy squad, has international experiences and scores important goals from midfield.
The Rome-born star has previously spoken about his desire to play regularly and keep developing at the highest level, ambitions that have put clubs across Europe on alert as he fights for minutes in Inter’s stacked midfield.
HEFTY PRICE TAG
However, any deal will come with a hefty price tag. Inter are understood to want around £30million before they even think about doing business, meaning Forest must come back with serious money after their initial summer feeler was knocked back.
A source close to the situation said: “Forest tried in the summer and they haven’t gone away. If they return with the right offer, Inter will have a decision to make.”
Bosses at the City Ground are believed to be pushing hard for midfield reinforcements, with Frattesi viewed internally as a player who could hit the ground running in the Premier League thanks to his engine, tactical nous and late runs into the box.
Inter’s public stance remains firm for now, but with rivals circling and the player open to a new challenge, this transfer saga is hotting up.
Editor's Insight
With a high-profile player like Davide Frattesi eyeing a move, the transfer story will usually leak through digital scouting networks. Forest, will need to get a deal finalized before the bigger clubs start to take interest.
