Exclusive: Darren Ferguson Lined Up To Rescue Northampton From Drop
Darren Ferguson is poised to take over as Northampton Town manager to help them avoid relegation. With Kevin Nolan's position in jeopardy, Ferguson's experience could provide the fresh start the struggling team needs. Stephen Clemence is also a potential candidate if Nolan is let go.

Darren Ferguson is being lined up to save Northampton Town from relegation to SkyBet League Two, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Kevin Nolan’s 14-month reign as Town boss is under major threat with the Cobblers embroiled in a scrap to avoid the drop.
After an encouraging start to the campaign, Nolan’s side have dropped to third bottom, albeit only two points from safety.
But recent results make grim reading for the former Bolton Wanderers, Newcastle United and West Ham United midfielder.
Northampton have won only one league game since December 19, have lost their last three matches including Tuesday’s embarrassing home defeat to bottom of the table Port Vale, managed by ex-Town chief, Jon Brady.
And next up for Nolan and his team is a Nene derby against Peterborough at Sixfields on Saturday.
Fresh Start
Fergie junior has been redundant since his fourth spell at Posh ended last October.
The son of former Manchester United legend, Sir Alex Ferguson, has been linked with a succession of lower league jobs since departing London Road.
Just over 40 miles separate Northampton and Peterborough and it remains to be seen how Cobblers’ fans would take to an ex Posh boss in charge.
However, with more than 750 games under his belt in management, including spells at Preston North End and Doncaster Rovers, his experience is second to none.
He has previously come under consideration for the former vacancies at Port Vale, Barrow and Wigan Athletic.
Stephen Clemence, son of former Liverpool and Spurs goalkeeper, Ray Clemence, would also come into consideration if time is called on Nolan.
He’s managed at Barrow and Gillingham after a successful playing career at Spurs and Leicester.
And he’s enjoyed coaching experience under Steve Bruce at Aston Villa, Sheffield Wednesday, Newcastle and most recently Blackpool.
