Ange Postecoglou has ruled himself out of an emotional return to Celtic but the ex-Hoops boss could yet land back in the Scottish Premiership, SportsBoom can reveal.

Big Ange confirmed this week he doesn’t want to be considered for any vacancy that may arise at Celtic Park come the end of the season.

Interim Bhoys’ boss Martin O’Neill could yet become the permanent successor to Wilfried Nancy.

But even if the role doesn’t go to the Celtic legend, Postecoglou isn’t interested.

However, Celtic’s Premiership rivals, Aberdeen, are still looking to appoint a successor to Jimmy Thelin.

The Dons, through to the quarter-finals of the Scottish Cup under caretaker Peter Leven, had lined up Norwegian Eirik Horneland.

But the move for the ex-St Etienne chief has apparently hit the buffers putting the club’s hierarchy on alert for a possible alternative.

Postecoglou hasn’t returned to management since his reign at Nottingham Forest ended in just 39 days earlier this season. Most recently he has worked as a match analyst for UEFA.

Comeback On Cards

However, the 60-year-old Aussie, who won the Europa League with Spurs last season at the expense of Manchester United, is keen to make a comeback at some stage.

And when he does drop back into the dugout he has a stated ambition to win trophies.

The Scottish Premiership is certainly out of reach of the Dons at the moment.

But the one-time European Cup Winners’ Cup champions lifted the Scottish Cup last season, beating Celtic on penalties.

And the emergence of leaders Hearts as potential title winners this season, coupled with a drop off in dominance by Celtic and Rangers, doesn’t make the scenario so outlandish.

After two seasons at Celtic, where we won five pieces of silverware, Postecoglou knows the Scottish game inside out and would relish locking horns against his former paymasters.
