Stevenage are eyeing up a raid for Burton Albion’s Jake Beesley this summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Brewers’ hotshot was the source of major interest during the winter window with Bradford City, Luton Town and Barnsley all interested at one stage or another.
Our sources have been told the Bantams’ interest has cooled, whilst Luton could yet reignite their pursuit of the striker.
Nine players have matched or exceeded Jake Beesley’s 13 League One goals this term.
Among them is Barnsley’s Davis Keillor-Dunn, who also has 13 goals but moved to former club Wrexham mid-season, and 38-year-old David McGoldrick, who is out of contract at the end of the campaign.
It means Barnsley could still consider a summer move for Beesley, the player they briefly monitored on deadline day while Keillor-Dunn’s switch to Championship Wrexham was being finalised.
Sources close to the club are expecting another summer rebuild for Conor Hourihane’s outfit, after a January bid was rejected.
Meanwhile, sources understand Stevenage are in the market for a proven scorer, to help Jamie Reid, given their struggles in front of goal this term as they look to take the next step.
Boro are on the cusp of the play-off places, but only five sides in the league, and no-one in the top 17, have scored less than the 38 goals they have managed this season.
Reid, who signed a “new and improved” contract at the club last year, also has 12 goals to his name this season but has found help from elsewhere shortcoming.
Most Prolific Season
Beesley is contracted at the Brewers until 2027, with a club option of a further year, which sources expect to be triggered at the end of the campaign.
The 29-year-old has found his most consistent form at Albion this season, after making a summer switch from Blackpool.
