A trio of Championship clubs are monitoring West Brom skipper Jed Wallace, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The experienced winger is out of contract at the Hawthorns at the end of the season.
It is understood one second-tier club have already approached Wallace’s representatives over his future.
As exclusively reported by SportsBoom back in October, the Baggies were contemplating letting their captain leave for free at the end of the season.
Sources close to the club have said talks over a new deal are still not yet underway as we head into the closing stages of the season, which has been a miserable one for the midlands outfit.
It is understood the club are keen to wait until the end of the campaign to see whether or not they can retain their Championship status.
And that has opened the door for other clubs to turn the 31-year-old’s head.
Our sources understand any renewal at the Baggies is expected to be a short-term one and Wallace is believed to want a longer-year deal at this stage of his career.
Full Circle?
In recent weeks, since James Morrison stepped into the vacant managerial role following the dismissal of Eric Ramsay, Wallace has begun to silence his doubters at West Brom, delivering strong performances in a recent win over Hull City and a hard-fought draw against Southampton, results which have injected renewed optimism into the club’s relegation battle.
Portsmouth are understood to be interested on a return of their academy product, but they have their own relegation battle to deal with first.
Howeverm it is understood Wallace, one of West Brom’s highest earners, would need to take a pay cut to fit with Pompey’s wage structure.
Wallace started his career at Fratton Park, scoring 27 goals in 110 games for the club, and earned himself the Player of the Year Award in the 2014/15 season.
He then became a mainstay at Millwall, who he helped to League One promotion, and became captain at the club before turning down a new deal to move to West Brom.
