Barnsley have entered the race to sign Jake Beesley on deadline day, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Sources in South Yorkshire have told SportsBoom that the Tykes readied a shortlist of strike targets in case Davis Keillor-Dunn left the club on deadline day.
Burton Albion’s Beesley has emerged as one of the Tykes’ top targets with Keillor-Dunn nearing a move to Championship Wrexham.
Albion are determined to keep hold of their star striker, who is key to their survival hopes this term.
Bradford City and Luton Town have both also been linked with the Brewers’ hitman.
It is understood Bradford had a fee of around £300,000 turned down for the striker last week.
But the Bantams signed both Jayden Jackson, from Derby County for an undisclosed fee, and Paul Mullin on loan from Wrexham which has filled their striker void.
Jack Wilshire’s Luton acquired Devante Cole from Port Vale.
Those developments left Brewers’ fans hopeful interest in Beesley had cooled until the summer.
But Barnsley are desperate to get reinforcements through the door with the vultures circling at Oakwell.
"Out Of My Hands"
Beesley is contracted at the Pirelli until the summer of 2027, with the Brewers holding an option for an additional year.
The 29-year-old, who grew up in Sheffield and came through the ranks at Chesterfield, signed for the club in the summer from fellow League One outfit Blackpool.
He has been the bright spark in an otherwise disappointing season for the club, who are fighting relegation.
Beesley’s opener against title-chasing Cardiff City at the weekend was his tenth league goal of the campaign.
And when asked about speculation regarding his future after the game, he said: “It’s not down to me, that’s down to the club. I haven’t really got any control in that.”
“At the end of the day I’ve for a job and I’d be doing a disservice to the manager and the players if I didn’t go out there and give my best.”
