Despite being sidelined for the past few weeks due to a muscular injury, Afonso Moreira, who has distinguished himself in Lyon’s attacking rotation with explosive pace and technical flair, continues to attract significant scouting interest from Europe’s top-tier leagues.
His pre-injury form has placed him firmly in the "calculable investment" category for several elite clubs.
Premier League and Bundesliga Radars Active
The window between late March and early April, when Moreira is expected to return to the pitch, will serve as a critical observation period for multiple suitors.
AFC Bournemouth and Brighton & Hove Albion, both renowned for their investment in young prospects, alongside Wolverhampton Wanderers, who are looking to bolster their offensive line with dynamic profiles, are among the frontrunners tracking Moreira.
Brighton aren’t just targeting attacking reinforcements on the wings this summer, they’re actively seeking a long-term replacement for veteran striker Danny Welbeck, with Japan international Ayase Ueda emerging as their prime option, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Additionally, RB Leipzig continues to maintain his profile in their database, a pursuit dating back to his formative years at Sporting CP.
It is understood that scouts gave Moreira top marks for his performances against Lille and Nantes just before his injury. His 1v1 take-on ability and decision-making during attacking transitions were highlighted as the standout strengths in the reports.
Technical Observations
Scouts have focused on the following criteria for his post-injury assessment:
Moreira’s primary weapon is his burst acceleration from tight spaces. His low center of gravity allows him to bypass opponents without losing balance, facilitating his rapid adaptation to the high tempo of Ligue 1.
Beyond being a traditional touchline winger, he demonstrates "inverted" qualities, cutting inside to showcase playmaking abilities. His soft touch on the ball is cited as a pure example of the "Portuguese school" of football.
Lyon’s Stance and Transfer Strategy
The club hierarchy retains full confidence in Moreira’s ceiling. Selling him at this stage is not a priority; instead, they plan to oversee his full development to secure a much higher valuation in the future.
Currently, there is no formal negotiation traffic with any club. Interest remains at the "strategic monitoring" level. However, should the player elevate his performance in the final stretch of the season, opening bids in the summer are expected to start in the €25M–€30 million range.
