Combining physical power with technical skill in the demanding climate of Ukrainian football, Prosper Obah has become one of the most impactful young wingers this season.
The Nigerian player’s flexibility, particularly on both flanks (RW/LW) and in the "number 10" (CAM) position, has transformed him into the sought-after versatile profile of modern football.
Scouting Tribune: British Marking and European Appetite
Obah’s statistical explosion has caused significant movement, particularly in the English market.
It has been learned that scouting delegations observed the player live during several critical fixtures.
Scouts from Championship sides Coventry City, Middlesbrough, and Southampton have closely monitored the Nigerian winger's physical capacity and pace-based game across several league matches.
Obah’s efficiency has not been limited to the English.
It is reported that several mid-to-top-tier clubs from the Belgian, German, and Dutch leagues have decided to maintain close monitoring of the player’s development until the end of the season.
Obah only joined Shakhtar in January from Portuguese side FC Vizela, signing a long-term contract until 2030, but the lure of a move to England, particularly if Coventry or Boro secure promotion to the Premier League, could prove difficult to resist, though any deal would come at a significant cost.
Technical Observations
A return of 12 goal involvements (8G, 4A) in 20 matches is considered elite-level efficiency for a winger. His ability to operate on both the right and left flanks makes him an unpredictable opponent for full-backs.
The Nigerian’s explosive acceleration and top speed are found to be 100% compatible with the athletic demands of the Premier League and Championship. His body balance during ball retention and 1v1 take-ons is remarkable.
Obah has proven his endurance with a relentless tempo from start to finish (maintaining 85–90 minutes on the pitch in nearly every match).
Club Stance and Transfer Strategy
Donetsk’s Expectations: Shakhtar Donetsk views Obah as their "next big sale" project.
While the club has not yet set an official asking price, negotiations are expected to open in the €15M–€20 million range.
Coventry have already been linked with a potential summer sale of striker Ellis Simms to Sheffield United, a deal that could generate the funds required to finance a move for Obah.
Currently, there is no formal "bid" submitted to the club. Southampton and Middlesbrough are currently in the "strategic monitoring" phase. However, if the player maintains this form, official moves are expected by May.
Editor's Insight
Shakhtar brought Obah in January with a view to selling him for a large fee this summer - at a price of €15m-€20m, any interested parties will have to be careful. This type of planned sale can offer serious value for release clause betting and player transfer predictions.
