Motherwell may have conceded ground in the unlikeliest ever challenge for a Scottish Premiership title after the Steelmen’s 2-1 defeat at Dundee.
But manager Jens Berthel Askou’s stock remains sky high and will land him a top job in the summer, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The little-known Dane, whose playing career included a brief time with Norwich City, has already piqued the interest of neighbours Celtic.
The much-criticised Parkhead leaders are ready to make him the permanent successor to Wilfried Nancy this summer when, as expected, interim boss Martin O’Neill steps aside.
Blackburn Rovers are understood to have considered the former Faroe Island Manager of the Year for the Ewood Park hot seat having previously appointed Askou’s compatriot Jon Dahl Tomasson.
But Askou wasn’t keen but will have the pick of posts both sides of the border in readiness for next season.
He is already on the radar of Premier League sides, Brighton and Fulham because of his body of work at Fir Park.
Tight Shop
Motherwell sit fourth and are 10 points off leaders Hearts; five and four behind Celtic and Rangers respectively.
But remarkably they have a better goal difference than the Old Firm clubs having conceded only 20 goals in 29 league outings.
Brighton boss Fabian Hurzeler is contracted until 2027 but is under pressure with the Seagulls currently 14th after an inconsistent season.
Albion chairman Tony Bloom is also a shareholder at Hearts and has seen Askou’s work in Scotland at close quarters.
Askou’s agent is former Fulham player Bjarne Goldbaek.
Cottagers’ manager Marco Silva is stalling over signing a new deal. And there will be some Fulham faithful who hopes he doesn’t after a dire FA Cup defeat to Southampton with a much-altered line-up. Fulham themselves have already started working up a shortlist of replacements.
Silva was fancifully linked to Manchester United after Ruben Amorim’s departure but should he decide to leave, Askou, 43, could answer the call to become his successor.
