St Mirren have approached Neil Lennon to be interviewed for their vacant manager job, SportsBoom can reveal.
The Buddies are on the look out for a new boss after Stephen Robinson’s shock departure to Aberdeen.
And it is understood the club want to appoint someone imminently with a number of options under consideration.
Robinson will return to The Paisley 2021 Stadium next weekend with new club Aberdeen and bosses want a permanent fixture in place by then with Craig McLeish currently in charge temporarily.
The Scottish Premiership side would be also interested in Finnish born Simo Valakari.
But the one-time Motherwell midfielder, who has guided St Johnstone to the top of the Scottish Championship, only recently signed a new deal at the Perth club until 2029.
And Lennon, whose managerial career includes two spells as Celtic manager as well as Bolton Wanderers, is in no rush to leave second tier Dunfermline Athletic.
The Northern Ireland born boss saved the Pars from relegation to League One last year, has guided them to fourth this term and into the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup.
Lennon described Dunfermline’s 3-0 quarter-final victory over Premiership Aberdeen as one “of my best achievements in football.”
But St Mirren are unlikely to wait until next term before confirming a permanent successor to Robinson who masterminded the Buddies’ surprise 3-1 Scottish League Cup final win over Celtic-then under Wilfried Nancy’s command-last December.
Relegation Battle
The Paisley based club are involved in a relegation scrap with Kilmarnock and seemingly already doomed, Livingston.
As revealed by SportsBoom earlier this week Charlie Adam is also being considered, alongside Scott Brown and Gary Naismith.
It is understood St Mirren are also considering Stephen McGinn, a former player and coach. He is currently first team coach at Falkirk but would be a popular choice with the Buddies’ supporters.
Editor's Insight
Lennon, Valakari, Adam, Brown, Naismith, McGinn - all with different reasons why they might or might not be here. That's the sort of next-manager market where hedging your bets is important, before things begin to clear up.
