Charlie Adam is being considered for the vacant St Mirren vacancy, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The former Rangers and Scotland midfielder threw his hat into the ring when the job became available last week.
And our sources have been told Adam, who spent a loan stint at the Paisley club early on during his playing days, is a serious contender to land the job.
It is understood there has been contact between the Scottish Premiership strugglers and Adam.
St Mirren have won just one league game since the start of the year, when they stunned league leaders Hearts last month, and have picked up just a solitary point from a possible 18 in a horrendous run of form.
The club are still in the Scottish Cup and will play Celtic in the semi-finals.
Adam has been looking for a return to management after being sacked by Fleetwood Town in December 2024.
Since then he had a spell as set piece coach at Everton under David Moyes and is back at Burnley, where he was previously loans manager, working with their academy.
But our sources understand Adam is desperate to return to frontline management.
Adam played 37 times for the Buddies during a loan spell in the 2005/06 campaign and helped the club to a title double with success in the First Division and Challenge Cup.
Recruit From Lower Leagues?
The 40-year-old is on a shortlist which includes the likes of Gary Naysmith and former Celtic midfielder Scott Brown.
Brown, another former Fleetwood manager, is currently at the helm at Scottish Championship club Ayr United, where he has been in post for over two years, who are sitting fifth.
Naysmith has impressed during his time at Stenhousemuir, who he led to a first league title after 140 years when he led them to the Scottish League Two crown in his first season in charge.
They are currently in the promotion race in League One.
Former Dundee boss Tony Docherty, who has been out of work since being sacked after less than four months by Ross County in December, is the bookies' favourite.
