Wolverhampton Wanderers want to build their promotion bid next season around Derby County star Patrick Agyemang, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Rob Edwards is understood to already be looking at potential signings with the Midlands club destined for a Championship return next term.

Our sources also understand there is expected to be a mass exodus as the club’s hierarchy look to completely overhaul their squad following a dismal campaign.

The vultures are already circling for the club’s biggest names like Mateus Mané, João Gomes, José Sá and Santiago Bueno.

And Edwards has already earmarked County hitman Agyemang for the club’s rebuild.

The USA international has bagged ten goals since moving to Pride Park from Charlotte FC last summer to help fire John Eustace’s Rams into play-off contention.

But his fine form this term has attracted the interest of a number of potential suitors.

Derby paid a reported £7.5million for the player and could fetch towards £20million for the 25-year-old.

There is also interest from the Premier League with Crystal Palace and Leeds United keen on the hitman.

Eustace admitted the player wanted to play in the Premier League, but he could view the project at Wolves, who should be competing for the Championship title next season as the perfect stepping stone to the top flight.

There is no guarantee Agyemang would be a starter at either Palace or Leeds.

Aiming For The Top

Agyemang would be only a year into his four-year deal at County at the end of the season.

But Eustace said: “He wants to develop. He’s a terrific lad. He’s just turned 25 and he’s just come from the MLS which is a completely different style and environment.”

“He wants to play in the Premier League and he wants to play there with Derby and if not, he wants to go and play at the highest level and that’s my job as a head coach (to improve) players that we bring in and make them better players.”
