Exclusive: Sheffield United Considering Shock Move to Re-Sign Hull’s Regan Slater
Sheffield United are considering bringing Regan Slater back to Bramall Lane, where he started his career. The midfielder has excelled at Hull City and caught the eye of United boss Chris Wilder. Despite Slater's contract with Hull nearing its end, his future remains uncertain as the Tigers push for promotion to the Premier League. Wilder is keen to reunite with Slater due to his versatility and consistent performances in the Championship.

Sheffield United are mulling over the possibility of offering Regan Slater what would be an emotional return to Bramall Lane, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Now of Hull City, the midfielder made three senior appearances for The Blades before moving to East Yorkshire in 2022 after failing to command a regular place in his boyhood club’s starting eleven.
But Slater has flourished since joining The Tigers four years ago, developing into one of the Championship’s most versatile and consistent performers.
After watching his former player excel during last week’s FA Cup tie against Chelsea, United boss Chris Wilder is now giving serious thought to the idea of attempting to work with Slater once again according to sources with knowledge of the situation.
Wilder Wants Return
If he can persuade The Blades’ board to try and test City’s resolve, it will not be the first time Wilder has tried to reacquire the former Carlisle and Scunthorpe loanee.
As SportsBoom exclusively revealed at the beginning of last season, United were monitoring Slater’s situation at the MKM Stadium closely, even going so far as making a tentative approach to The Tigers’ hierarchy.
That was rebutted, with Slater’s situation no further complicated by the fact Sergej Jakirovic’s side now find themselves challenging for a place in the Premier League next term.
If they do go up, either automatically or via the play-offs, Slater would inevitably be reluctant to consider rejoining United despite retaining strong emotional ties to them.
But, with his ability to operate in a variety of different roles being viewed as a precious commodity, particularly in the second tier, where squad depth is usually much more shallow, could tempt City to consider offers from second tier outfits if the riches elite level competition brings means they can assemble a team of specialists.
Slater is thought to be approaching the end of his present agreement with The Tigers, although they retain the option to extend that by a further 12 months should they desire.
