Newcastle United are close to agreeing a new improved contract for star defender Tino Livramento to end speculation about a possible move away from St. James’ Park, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Our sources understand Manchester United are interested in signing the talented full-back, with Manchester City having previously been linked with a move for the player.
The 23-year-old England international has seen his stock rise after some starring performances for the Magpies, as well as his breakthrough into the national squad.
And after two solid seasons for Eddie Howe’s side the club are keen to fend off interest from rival Premier League clubs, promising the defender regular games and a continued pathway to England recognition.
Livramento joined the Magpies in August 2023 on a five-year deal, but even though he has three years left on his current contract, it hasn’t stopped rival clubs from circling to try and snatch his signature.
The former Chelsea academy graduate played for Southampton before his £32million plus £8m add-ons move to Newcastle.
SportsBoom reports also suggest that Newcastle are lining up an audacious January move for Nottingham Forest centre-half Nikola Milenkovic, with the club concerned about Sven Botman’s ongoing injury issues and eager to strengthen their defensive options.
BIG HIT
Right-back Livramento has been a big hit for the Magpies and his highly-rated by Howe who, after last season’s historic cup-winning success, is understandably hungry to keep his best young players.
The club are also understood to be in negotiations with centre-bac Sven Botman about a new deal, another player who is attracting a lot of interest from Premier League rivals and top clubs in Europe.
Newcastle hopes Livramento and Botman will both accept new terms to stay in the North East, which is why they are working hard to offer improved terms before the January transfer window opens.
Livramento has been capped three times by England since making his debut in November 2027, but the defender wants to make himself a regular in Thomas Tuchel’s side.
He has already played over 100 games in the Premier League from his previous time with the Saints and Newcastle combined, having been a mainstay of Howe’s team this term.
