West Ham United are preparing an £8million raid for Bristol City’s Scott Twine, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
Twine has impressed at the Robins this season and caught the attention of Premier League admirers in the process.
Our sources understand Nuno Espírito Santo is ready to pull the trigger with a January move for the Championship playmaker.
Set-piece specialist Twine has scored six goals and provided two assists so far this season.
And with the Hammers in a relegation dog fight, they are seeking reinforcements to ensure their 13-year stay in the top flight continues.
It is understood Wolverhampton Wanderers and Leeds United have also identified the 26-year-old as a potential target.
Playmaker Twine’s six goals so far this term has already surpassed last season's tally, and over the past two years four of his 11 goals have been from free-kicks.
Wth regular set-piece taker James Ward-Prowse frozen out since Nuno replaced axed Graham Potter it is a void the club are crying out to fill.
Midfield maestro Twine signed a four-year contract when he signed at Ashton Gate for around £4million in 2024.
For people who think Twine’s quality in purely from dead-ball situations, boss Gerhard Struber insisted: “Twiney is not only a free-kick monster, he is also a really good transition player and works really well against the ball. That's the reason why he plays. If he were only a free-kick monster, then he wouldn't get game time.”
West Ham are also weighing up cashing in on out-of-favour striker Niklas Fülkrug in January, with Leeds and Wolves circling, a move that could help fund their push for set-piece specialist Twine.
Fan Favourite
Twine started his career at Swindon Town and scored nine goals in 59 appearances for the club before moving to MK Dons in 2021.
He enjoyed his most prolific season to date whilst at the club in League One, scoring 20 goals in 45 games as he was named EFL Player of the Season and won Young Player of the Year and Player of the Year at the Dons.
That caught the eye of Championship Burnley as he earned a £4million move to Turf Moor.
But just 14 appearances, and three goals, in his first season saw him shipped out to Hull City and the Robins on loan in the 2023/24 campaign before he agreed a permanent move to Ashton Gate.
Editor's Insight
Twine's recruitment is a direct result of the "hard reset" in tactics at the London Stadium. The departure of Graham Potter and the arrival of Nuno Espírito Santo has led to a re-ordering of the squad, with former favourites such as James Ward-Prowse being sidelined. This is a typical case of new management changing the club's priorities and valuations. For West Ham, the need to replace a dead-ball specialist is not just about the players, it's about recalibrating the "implied probability" of the squad to fit a system that suits the new coach.
