Preston North End defender Liam Lindsay has emerged on Aberdeen’s radar, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The experienced centre-back penned a two-year contract extension as the Lancashire club back in January, keeping him at the Lilywhites until 2027.
But our sources have been told the Dons have been considering making a move for the 30-year-old Scot in recent weeks.
The Scottish club are understood to be desperate to bolster their squad having become a mid-table side in recent years.
And it is understood Lindsay is on their wish list as the club try to re-establish themselves as one of the best sides in the country.
The reigning Scottish Cup winners finished third in the 2022/23 campaign, but have had to settle for seventh and fifth respectively.
Preston are eager to hold onto the defender, who is a mainstay in Paul Heckingbottom's plans.
Heckingbottom was re-united with the player he previously managed at Barnsley when he took over as North End boss last year.
Speaking when Lindsay signed his contract extension at the beginning of the year, he said: “He’s been a key player for this club for a few years now and he’s started most games for us so far this season, too.”
“I worked with Liam at Barnsley so I knew what type of player and person he was when I came in, and I think he’s got better and better over the years. He’s a great lad with a top attitude and he’s been solid for us at the back.”
In other Preston news, Everton loanee Harrison Armstrong has been tipped for a potential January move, with his Championship performances reportedly attracting interest from Premier League clubs Burnley and Leeds, who could look to hijack his loan.
World Cup Contention?
Lindsay still harbours ambitions of breaking into Steve Clarke’s plans ahead of the World Cup.
The player, who joined North End from Stoke, was called up last year but is yet to make his debut.
He said: “It's going to be tough, of course. I was absolutely made up getting in the squad last year. Maybe a bit of luck. You never know what happens. Hopefully, I'll keep playing well and give Steve Clarke a headache.”
