Cardiff City will enter the loan market in January to find a replacement for injured Rubin Colwill, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The influential playmaker faces up to three months on the sidelines after damaging his ankle ligaments during last weekend’s victory over Northampton Town.
Welsh international Colwill, 23, has enjoyed arguably his best season to date and his untimely injury is a brutal blow for him and promotion contenders Cardiff.
Discussions are ongoing regarding whether he will undergo surgery or not.
Our sources have been told Bluebirds' bosses are prepared to enter the loan market to find a short-term replacement for Colwill, who has started every League One game for the club this term.
It is understood talks of Aaron Ramsey, who was released at the end of last season, returning to the club after his Mexico nightmare are wide of the mark.
SportsBoom have been told staff at the Welsh club are readying a list of potential replacements and will start contacting Premier League and Championship clubs regarding the availability of their targets next week.
Big Loss
Colwill has been at the forefront of Cardiff's attacking play this term, bagging four goals and provided three assists.
On losing one of his key players, boss Brian Barry-Murphy said: “Obviously when an injury of that nature occurs it's very disappointing for Rubin and for his team-mates.”
“He's demonstrated incredible leadership qualities within our dressing room. He’s been an invaluable member of our team.”
“I don't think we have a like for like replacement, but we have other players who we believe can step up to the plate and give us something different.”
“So there's a real opportunity within our squad based on what that we've done and the opportunity that Rubin's absence provides.”
