Exclusive: Brendan Rodgers Needs Convincing as Leeds Eye Him to Replace Under-Fire Farke
Former Celtic and Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers is yet to be persuaded by Leeds United's offer to become their next manager. The Northern Irishman is intrigued by the prospect but wants assurances on ambitions and potential in the transfer market. Rodgers' reputation for delivering trophies and attractive football make him the most compelling choice, despite being the most expensive option. If Farke is sacked, other candidates include Bo Svensson, Marco Rose, and Carlos Corberan.

Brendan Rodgers will need persuading of Leeds United’s ambitions and potential in the transfer market before agreeing to discuss the possibility of replacing Daniel Farke at Elland Road, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The former Swansea City, Liverpool, Leicester City and Celtic chief is reportedly the Whites’ first choice to take charge of the newly promoted side if, as expected, they sever ties with the beleaguered Farke.
Although Rodgers is intrigued by the prospect of leading Leeds, having led several high-profile clubs during his managerial career, sources close to the Northern Irishman warn that he would expect to be competitive when it comes to recruitment before accepting the position.
Having been relegated with The Foxes before returning to Glasgow, Rodgers is understandably reluctant to add another ‘R’ to an otherwise illustrious CV which includes a promotion from the Championship, an FA Cup, four SPL titles and three Scottish Cups.
After losing five of their last six outings, Farke’s team are languishing in the Premier League’s relegation zone and in danger of making an immediate return to the second tier.
That has cast doubt on the German’s long-term future in West Yorkshire, even though he has not been granted the funding required to compete with established top-flight teams of a similar stature due to the financial disparities between the two divisions.
REPUTATION
Rodgers would expect to have greater resources placed at his disposal than Farke, although his reputation as someone capable of delivering trophies whilst encouraging an attractive brand of football could convince The Whites board of directors to loosen the purse strings.
Bo Svensson, Marco Rose and Carlos Corberan, who as SportsBoom exclusively revealed earlier this month would be interested in exploring the idea of returning to the club where he coached under Marcelo Bielsa, are also known to be under consideration should Farke be relieved of his duties only six months after taking Leeds up.
Rose apart, Rodgers would be the most expensive of those options by some considerable margin. However, his knowledge of the English game and experience of managing high-pressure situations following one spell at Anfield and two at Parkhead also combine to make him the most attractive and compelling.
The cost of hiring him would also be offset by the fact he is a free agent, having left Celtic after a fall-out with the Scottish giants’ owner Dermot Desmond.
Editor's Insight
Rodgers won't take the Leeds job if it's not worth it. He's weighed up the numbers - a second relegation is worse for his CV than a job at Elland Road. This ability to weigh up the pros and cons before making a decision is the same skill required to understand cash-out value in betting - when it's a good deal and when it's not.
