Fulham are working behind-the-scenes to try and resurrect a deal to sign Chelsea’s teenage terror Tyrique George, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Cottagers failed in a bid to land 19-year-old attacking ace George on transfer deadline day.
Our sources understand George had a successful medical and was ready for a permanent move after personal terms were agreed.
But the deal collapsed at the last minute when the two clubs couldn’t agree on a fee for the England Under-19 international.
George was understood to be very frustrated a deal wasn’t done, especially so late in the window and everything else needed to happen agreed.
However, SportsBoom has discovered a deal is not dead, and the Craven Cottage outfit are working hard to get everything agreed in principle for when the window opens again in January.
George is ready to take the next step in his fledgling career and craves regular Premier League football.
REGULAR FOOTBALL
Fulham can give him that, whereas the London-born playmaker knows his Blues’ chances will be limited, especially after a string of big-money summer signings.
George played eight games for the Blues in the Premier League last season, seven of which were as a late second half substitute.
He also played in the Europa Conference League, again employed as an impact sub during the club’s memorable run to the title.
In all he played in 27 games for the club last campaign, which includes cameos in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States a month after the end of the Premier League season which Chelsea won.
He was a replacement in the club’s 2-0 win over Los Angeles and scored a 90th minute goal, his third of the season, in a 3-0 victory against Tunisian side ES Tunis.
The presentation ceremony for that competition, after the Blues had hammered Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain 3-0 in the final, was famously ridiculed after US President Donald Trump bizarrely joined them on stage.
