Exclusive: Stoke Set to Extend Lewis Baker’s Stay After Key Role in Promotion Push

Stoke City's Lewis Baker, in outstanding form this season, is expected to receive a one-year contract extension after impressing under manager Mark Robins. The midfielder's standout performances have attracted interest from other Championship clubs, but he looks set to stay with Stoke City after Robins saved his career at the club.

Lewis Baker is expected to be offered a one-year extension at Stoke City, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Chelsea academy graduate penned a three-year deal at the bet365 in 2022 and was awarded a one-year extension at the end of last season.

And sources close to the club have told SportsBoom that the midfielder will likely extend his stay once again after his superb start to the season.

Baker has been one of Stoke's standout performers during their Mark Robins’ revival with the club firmly in the promotion race after a number of years languishing in the bottom half of the Championship table.

The experienced 30-year-old has scored four goals and provided one assist so far this term as the Potters sit third in the table.

However, his performances have caught the attention of a number of fellow Championship outfits who are willing to snap up his services if he becomes available come the end of the season.

Stoke are also reportedly eyeing a reunion with Sheffield United striker Tom Cannon, who, despite struggling for form this season, netted his first goal in a 3-0 win over rivals Sheffield Wednesday, potentially reigniting his campaign.

It is understood Baker feels indebted to Robins after he saved his Stoke career.

When Robins was brought in last season Baker was out on loan at Blackburn Rovers, and on the verge of leaving the club at the end of his contract, after being frozen out by previous regimes under Alex Neil and Steven Schumacher.

Speaking about the player, Robins said: “He’s a top player, a top player. There are lots of goals in him. I like the fact that he’s backed up performances, Saturday and Tuesday, and you know he’s not going to be far away from the back of the net.”

“He’s just got a lot of quality and not only that, he’s good in different areas of the pitch. I’m really pleased with his performance and generally the performance overall was really good.”
