Swansea City are working off a five-man shortlist in their quest to find Alan Sheehan’s replacement, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Swans’ bosses axed the manager after they were booed off following their defeat at home to Ipswich Town at the weekend. Sheehan got the job following two impressive spells as caretaker boss.

But after overseeing the club’s worst start to a season since relegation from the Premier League in 2017/18, he got the chop.

The managerial merry-go round is well and truly underway in the Championship.

Clubs tend to wait until the international break to give themselves longer to find the right fit.

There are three clubs after new managers in the second tier.

High-flying Middlesbrough’s move was enforced after Rob Edwards, only appointed in the summer, surprisingly jumped ship for Premier League Wolves dogfight. Steven Gerrard has been touted to take over at the Riverside.

Norwich City sacked Liam Manning following their disastrous start to the campaign and Swansea shortly followed suit in sacking Sheehan.

Our sources have been told bosses at the Welsh club are keeping their cards close to their chest in their manager hunt, but it is understood they have already held talks with two candidates.

Names such as Michael Carrick, Gary O’Neil, Brendan Rodgers, and former Swans boss Russell Martin have been loosely linked with the vacancy, though sources insist no appointments or approaches have been confirmed.

They have appointed Celtic’s chief scout Jay Leferve, who spent six years at the Scottish champions.

End Was Coming

The Swans has won just four games out of 15 so far this season.

Owners Brett Cravatt and Jason Cohen said: “Alan has been instrumental in helping improve the club through two periods of time.

“We would like to place on record our thanks to Alan and wish him and his family all the best.”

And a club statement announcing Sheehan’s sacking read: “However, in the wake of a disappointing run, it is felt results and performances do not meet the standards expected at this stage of the season, and we have had to take this difficult decision.

“The process to appoint a new head coach is already under way. We will update supporters on this process once it has been concluded.”
