Kalvin Phillips’ Fairytale Leeds United Return on the Cards

Leeds United are on the verge of a fairytale return for Kalvin Phillips, with sources indicating a move if Daniel Farke's side secures promotion to the Premier League. After a disappointing spell at Manchester City, the midfielder is eager to reignite his career at his boyhood club. Leeds fans will be hoping for a successful return for their former star player.

Kalvin Phillips are on the verge of a fairytale return to Leeds United, according to SportsBoom sources.

It is understood that the Elland Road academy product is Yorkshire bound should Daniel Farke’s side secure promotion back to the Premier League.

The 29-year-old made over 200 appearances during his stint at the club, memorably starring in the 2020 promotion under Marcelo Bielsa, and became a regular for England.

Phillips moved to Manchester City in 2022 on a six-year deal for a fee over £40million.

But he failed to make the grade under Pep Guardiola and is desperate to reignite his career by returning to his boyhood club.

It is believed that City would not stand in the player’s way of returning to Leeds and would want to recoup half of the fee they paid for the holding midfielder.

    BACK ON TRACK

Phillips was an England regular when he made the move to the Etihad less than three years ago, but his career has gone downhill since.

Guardiola labelled Phillips as “unfit to train” and said he returned for pre-season “overweight” as his career began to spiral.

Phillips made just six starts for the club and has been shipped off on loan in the past two seasons.

It did not work for him at West Ham United last season and he has been part of Ipswich Town’s first campaign back in the top tier  for over two decades.

But Kieran McKenna’s side are relegation bound and will not be vying to make Phillips’ move permanent once they are in the Championship.

Which leaves the door open for Leeds to pounce if they return to the top flight at the end of the season.
