Leeds United are set to offer Scotland international shot-stopper Angus Gunn a deal ahead of the start of the new Premier League season, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
The Whites have been linked previously with Scotland international Gunn, but he only officially became a free agent last week.
And it’s little surprise interesting is growing in the experienced 16-cap goalkeeper who was surprisingly deemed surplus to requirements by the Canaries after nearly four seasons at the club.
Gunn, 29, has been the club’s first-choice keeper for the past three seasons, but Canaries’ boss Liam Manning has opted for a new direction this season and Gunn was not offered a new deal to stay at Carrow Road.
Leeds have also been linked with a move for Torino keeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic, but our sources have learnt that Gunn is in contact with the club and set to challenge for the number one shirt next season.
Last season’s Championship winners are have already strengthened with the summer acquisitions of Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol on a five-year £15million deal and fellow defender Sebastiaan Bornauw on a four-year contract from VFL Wolfsburg for a £5.1m fee.
And forward Lukas Nmecha also joined from the Bundesliga outfit on a free transfer.
NEED FOR DEFENCE
Leeds boss Daniel Farke has stressed the need to strengthen in defence – and with Gunn the German knows he has an experienced keeper who knows what it takes to perform at the club level.
He sees the Scot as the perfect player for between the posts, with his two new centre-backs having furthered bolstered the club’s back-line ahead of the club’s return to the top-flight since relegation at the end of the 2023 campaign.
In total, Gunn played 121 games for the Canaries having joined on a four-year deal in June 2021.
The former Manchester City stopper represented England at a host of age-group levels, including the Under-21s, before making his senior international debut for Scotland in March last year.
He spent three years with Southampton in the Premier League, but frustratingly only played 22 games across that stage of his career before leaving St Marys’ to get regular football.
