Exclusive: Lennon Miller’s Dad Hints at Imminent Move with Sunderland Pushing Ahead

Sunderland are set to bid for Motherwell’s Lennon Miller, a highly-rated midfielder attracting interest from Celtic, Rangers, and Everton. The 18-year-old, already a Scotland international, is eager to play at the highest level and a move to the Premier League or to Celtic could be on the cards.

Sunderland are ready to table a bid for Motherwell’s hot prospect Lennon Miller this week, but Everton, Celtic and Rangers are also interested in trying to sign the highly-rated midfielder, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

Miller was a notable absentee as The Steelmen drew 2-2 with Clyde in a friendly fixture on Saturday ahead of the start of the new Scottish Premiership season.

And the promising Scotland international's father has revealed he believes a bid is imminent for his 18-year-old son.

Lee Miller, who played for Hearts, Aberdeen and Dundee United, admitted: "I think there will be a bid that comes in, if not this week, maybe next week."

“There's a lot of talk behind the scenes and the clubs are speaking together - and we'll see what happens."

As SportsBoom exclusively revealed last month, teenage talent Miller has attracted plenty of interest since breaking into Steve Clarke’s Scotland squad.

And the Black Cats have been keeping tabs on the youngster for some time, keen to recruit him ahead of their return to the Premier League.

Miller is currently injured, but after two excellent seasons with Motherwell, his time at Fir Park looks to be coming to an end.

He came through the academy system with the Scottish club but has ambitions to play for a bigger club respectively, with Sunderland and Celtic now understood to be his two preferred options.

BIG AMBITION

The chance to play in the Premier League is an opportunity the midfielder would struggle to turn down, especially at such an early stage in his career, but a move to Scottish Premiership champions Celtic also presents an excellent career move for the young star.

"He's got ambition,” added Lee Miller.

“He wants to play at the highest level possible."

"He had a great season last season, finishing off the season with two Scotland caps, which was tremendous."

“He wants to take it to another level and we'll see what happens over the next few weeks."

"He just wants to play football. He would've played in that game yesterday. He just wants to play football and enjoy it and that's what he does best."

Last season Miller won the Football Writers’ Association Young Player of the Year award.

He made his full international debut in June last year and is out of contract in June next year, with Motherwell keen to cash in on their former academy scholar.
