Brentford are closing in on a deal to sign experienced striker Callum Wilson, with negotiations progressing well and an agreement could be reached within the next couple of weeks, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal
The 34-year-old hitman is available on a free transfer after his one-year contract with West Ham expired at the end of last season.
With the Hammers suffering relegation from the Premier League, Wilson is determined to continue his distinguished career in the top flight, and Brentford are now leading the race to secure his signature ahead of the new campaign.
Talks between the two parties are understood to be going smoothly, with optimism growing that the former England international will soon become the latest addition to Keith Andrews' squad.
Wilson may be in the twilight of his career, but he showed last season that he still has plenty to offer.
He made 32 appearances for West Ham in all competitions, scoring seven goals despite the club's disappointing campaign.
West Ham initially blocked a move to Everton in January, but ultimately lost Wilson on a free transfer after his contract expired at the end of the season, with Leeds also showing interest before Brentford emerged with the strongest and most decisive approach in negotiations.
EXPERIENCE
The veteran frontman would arrive at the Gtech Community Stadium boasting a wealth of Premier League know-how after spending more than a decade proving himself at the highest level.
Wilson first made his name with Bournemouth, helping the Cherries win promotion from the Championship during the 2014 15 season before becoming one of their most reliable goalscorers in the Premier League.
He played 126 top-flight games for Bournemouth, scoring 61 goals during a hugely successful spell on the south coast.
His form earned him a £20 million move to Newcastle United in 2020, where he continued to deliver in front of goal.
Wilson played 113 Premier League matches for the Magpies and scored an impressive 47 league goals, establishing himself as one of the division's most dependable finishers.
LONGEVITY
Across his professional career, Wilson has made 427 appearances and found the net 148 times, numbers that underline his consistency and longevity at the highest level.
The experienced striker has also represented England on nine occasions, scoring twice for his country, with his most recent international appearance coming in 2023.
A Championship winner and EFL Cup winner during his career, Wilson would bring invaluable leadership, experience and proven goalscoring pedigree to Brentford's dressing room.
The Bees believe they are closing in on landing exactly the sort of seasoned striker they need, and if negotiations continue at their current pace, Wilson could soon be leading the line in West London once again in the Premier League.
Editor's Insight
Brentford now look the most likely landing spot for Callum Wilson after moving quickest and most decisively in talks, with Leeds and Everton previously circling but failing to land a firm push.
