Real Madrid left-back Álvaro Carreras has emerged as a transfer target for three Premier League giants, with Chelsea now seriously considering a move for the Spanish defender.

Arsenal and Manchester United are also understood to be monitoring his situation closely at Real Madrid.

Cucurella Pressure Could Change Everything

At the heart of the matter lies the transfer of Marc Cucurella to Real Madrid.

As soon as the experienced left back of the Spanish national team stepped into the Bernabeu, the situation of Carreras was shaken deeply.

According to information obtained from sources close to SportsBoom, the Real Madrid management plans to position Cucurella as the undisputed first choice. This pushes Carreras to the background and prepares the ground for the club to open the door.

Los Blancos want to regain the €50 million they paid for Carreras in July 2025.

Whether the attitude of the club turns into a stubborn seller position depends largely on Carreras himself. The player prefers to remain in Madrid for the time being, but it is understood that if the guarantee of regular playing time at the club disappears, the picture could change rapidly.

Former Manager Xabi Alonso in Play

On the Chelsea side, the key name of the process is Xabi Alonso.

Alonso, who became the new manager of Chelsea, knows Carreras closely because he developed the young player himself at Real Madrid.

This bond between the duo offers Chelsea a serious advantage against its rivals.

This development comes after SportsBoom previously reported that Chelsea had narrowed their left-back search to Newcastle United’s Lewis Hall and Fulham’s Antonee Robinson, although Carreras could now emerge as a more cost-effective option with significant upside potential.

According to information, SportsBoom is aware that the adaptation process of Carreras to the Chelsea environment could pass extremely smoothly, both because he internalised the system of Alonso and because he remains no stranger to English football.

Because Carreras knows English football closely. He took part in the structure of Manchester United between 2020 and 2024. During this process, he was loaned to Preston North End and received regular minutes in the Championship. Therefore, he carries no question marks regarding adaptation to the physical tempo of the Premier League.

Manchester United Return Plan

On the other hand, his former club Manchester United, does not sit idle either.

According to what SportsBoom learned, United brought Carreras back from the Bernabeu onto its internal club agenda.

An official offer has not been placed on the table yet, but the management of Arsenal and United are actively putting the situation of the player under the microscope.

Assuming Cucurella sits in the starting 11, it could be a matter of time before Carreras moves with the search for regular playing time.

There is also another development casting a shadow on the picture.

Manager Jose Mourinho became supportive of the departure of Carreras following a meeting he held with former manager Alvaro Arbeloa.

Interesting one, but still feels a bit early to call this a genuine exit story rather than typical Madrid squad pressure talk. The Alonso-Chelsea link gives it some weight, yet Madrid rarely let young assets go cheaply. If this gathers pace, it’s the kind of market movement that would quickly ripple into transfer betting odds rather than confirmed action.
