Bournemouth have put themselves in the market to try and sign sought-after Scotland left-back Josh Doig, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.
But the Cherries face stiff competition from Nottingham Forest, who are also interested in signing the defender in the January transfer window.
Doig, who can also play as a left wing-back, is relishing the chance to play for Scotland at next summer’s World Cup.
The former Hibernian ace has been starring for Serie A side Sassuolo in Italy’s top-flight ever since a move from Scotland in January 2024.
But now Bournemouth and Forest have both made initial enquiries about trying to entice the ambitious 23-year-old to the Premier League.
Doig made his international debut earlier this year for Steve Clarke’s side against Lichtenstein.
And the former SFWA Young Player of the Year is understood to be excited about the chance to possibly play in the Premier League.
Bournemouth are also reportedly preparing an audacious bid for Germany international and Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck as they look to replace Dean Huijsen and Ilya Zabaryni, who both departed the club last summer.
RAMPED UP
He was signed by Sassuolo in a £5.5million deal and is under contract until 2028, but that hasn’t stopped both the Cherries and Forest about ramping up their pursuit of the player.
Doig started his career at Hibernian and went on to play 62 times in the Scottish Premiership before Italian side Hellas Verona came calling.
But relegation followed and Doig left to join Sassuolo, who he helped win promotion back to Italy’s top tier.
The full-back has played 58 games for the club and has been a key player for the Italian team during the past two seasons.
Forest boss Sean Dyche is in the market for a new left-back as he looks to build his squad at the City Ground, while Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola is desperate for defensive reinforcements after losing a trio of top defenders in the summer.
Doig has previously been heavily-linked with a move to Celtic, but he has prospered since his move to Italy and relished regular football.
