Exclusive: Peterborough United Keen on Colchester Star Kyreece Lisbie After Failed Reading Move

Peterborough United have identified Kyreece Lisbie as their top summer target after a deadline day move to Reading fell through. The 22-year-old winger has been in impressive form for Colchester United, attracting interest from other League One clubs. Posh has a history of developing players and selling them on for profit, which could be an attractive option for Lisbie.

Peterborough United have identified Kyreece Lisbie as their top summer target, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Colchester United youngster, 22, appeared on the verge of a deadline day move for League One Reading earlier this week.

Reading reportedly had a bid in the region of £700,000 accepted before the U’s performed a late u-turn to keep their star man in the final hours of the window.

Our sources have been told Posh will push hard to take the wing wizard to London Road at the end of the season, at which stage the player will only have a year left on his contract.

It is also expected that the Royals will reignite their interest after seeing their move fall through at the last hurdle.

Both Peterborough and Reading will face further competition at League One level as the player takes the next step in his career.

Posh have a proven track record of being a successful stepping stone club.

They have secured sizeable sums for the likes of Dwight Gayle, Britt Assombalonga, Jack Marriott, Ivan Toney, Sammie Szmodics, Ephron Mason-Clark, Ronnie Edwards and Harrison Burrows, who have all moved to Championship or Premier League clubs for decent profit over the past decade or so.

That pathway will prove an attractive proposition for Lisbie, who seemed disgruntled after Colchester blocked his move.

He posted a cryptic message on social media which said: "When the time is right, I will make it happen, as he removed his profile picture of himself in a U’s shirt and any reference to the club on his social media profile."

One To Watch

Following a spell of rejection earlier in his career, which included being released by Leyton Orient and Watford, Lisbie signed for Brentford’s B team in 2022.

After impressive for the Bees, Lisbie signed a deadline-day deal with Colchester last year as he got his EFL breakthrough at a club he had previously trialled at.

He scored his first goal for the club on the opening day this term and has not looked back, registering ten strikes in 29 league games this season.
