Exclusive: Barnsley Move to Secure Adam Phillips Future With Contract Extension Planned

Barnsley is set to extend Adam Phillips' contract by one year, with talks for a new multi-year deal also underway. The decision comes amid the club's efforts to secure contracts for players with 11 set to expire. The aftermath of a disappointing winter transfer window sees fans discontent as top scorer Davis Keillor-Dunn departs for Wrexham. Phillips has made his commitment clear in the past, stating he is happy at the club.

Barnsley are set to trigger a one-year extension in Adam Phillips’ contract, SportsBoom can exclusively reveal.

The Tykes’ attention has turned towards what could be another transitional summer at Oakwell after the winter window closed earlier this week.

Our sources have been told Barnsley chiefs will spend the next couple of months trying to tie players to new deals with 11 players out of contract come the end of the season.

Four of those; Mael de Gevigney, Jack Shepherd, Max Watters — currently on loan at Dundee United — and Phillips have an option of an extra year in the club’s favour.

And sources say Phillips is top of the list to have his contract extended, with talks also set to commence over a new multi-year deal.

It was a disappointing window for the club’s fans as they saw top scorer Davis Keillor-Dunn leave for Championship Wrexham.

There is a state of discontent around the club in the aftermath of the window with the Keillor-Dunn windfall yet to be reinvested into Conor Hourihane's squad.

Tom Bradshaw, 33, returned to the club on a loan deal from Oxford United as a stop gap until the end of the season.

Oakwell Favourite

Luton Town were among a number of clubs at League One level interested in Phillips in the summer.

That sparked Phillips’ now infamous deadline-day post that he was “not f****** leaving”.

Earlier this season Phillips told the Chronicle: “Towards the end of last season a lot of people had a bit of doubt about myself. ‘Is he happy at the club?’”

“When there was a little bit of speculation etc etc, I just wanted to put it out there that I am happy here and not ready to leave yet. It was a big statement but I am enjoying myself at the minute and looking forward to the rest of the season with Barnsley.”

During his time at Oakwell, where he signed for an undisclosed fee from Burnley in 2022, Phillips has scored 38 goals in 161 appearances in all competitions.
